I've been quite smitten with the international bestseller The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, Japan's warrior princess on clutter (as dubbed by The London Times ). I love her approach to the mindful possession of material objects.

Much of what she covers in her book is exactly what we need to put into practice as we transition to spring (or fall for those in the Southern Hemisphere) in this Year of Creativity + Innovation. You may be thinking: "Wait: what does clutter have to do with creativity?!" Read on.

In this issue:

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up

The Life-Changing Magic  of Tidying Up, by Marie Kondo
Kondo has a simple charge: "Discard everything that does not spark joy."
In essence, this missive is about making room for infinite possibilities.

Does your workspace (and the rest of your spaces for that matter) spark the joy of creativity and innovation? This spring, I encourage you to take a look around you, and eliminate that which triggers long to-do lists, thoughts of "I should/must/ought to," and anything that causes any sense of burden. Keep only the things that spark new ideas and the joy of creating.

Anything else is clutter, which creates mental drag. And this, my friend, is actually the point: excess stuff begets cluttered thinking. I challenge you to spring clean the "stuff" of your mental distractions, particularly the voices in the head that hold you back. We all know those voices far too well. They belong to the Inner Critic.

Speaking of the Inner Critic...

Discover how getting into your creative flow sends away the inner critic.

I'm busy at work on my new book, Banish Your Inner Critic, to be released this summer (woot!). But in order to write a book that is truly valuable for you, I need your input. I'd love to hear your biggest blocks to creating and innovating. Please share them with me through this short survey (it will only take about 2-3 minutes). I know you're busy, so I thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out.

Also, to further improve this book, I'd love to have beta readers for early stage review and feedback. Intrigued and interested? Then sign up here: http://denisejacobs.com/innercritic/

2015: The Year of Creativity + Innovation

This is the year we follow the creativity imperatives and learn to work better, produce more, and create betterness.

How have you made creativity and innovation a priority this year so far? Please reach out to share your successes and challenges with me — I'd love to hear them!

That's it for now. Stay tuned for more tips and tools for getting rid of the mental drag that gets in the way of letting those great ideas out of your head and into the world. I've got your back! :)

Keep on creating!

Best,
Denise
